A friend of mine kept on telling me to go to CARPO the next time I was in the Piccadilly Circus area of London’s West End. I kept on missing the opportunity though. This friend goes all dreamy-eyed when she re-counts the amazing coffee and deliciously decadent treats that fill the café (apparently the vegan chocolates are to die for).
So last week I went there. Why on earth I waited so long I have no idea. This place is amazing. Packed with customers, the place is addictive – not just in what is on offer but also by wanting to be a part of the experience. I am told that at weekends the queue to get in means a 30 minute wait. I am not surprised!
This smart Hellenic deli – café on Piccadilly is the first store outside of Greece for the family run CARPO. Candied and packed versions of scores of fruit are arrayed on shelves that line the walls; sacks of mixed or roasted nuts are stacked on the floor; slabs of chocolate mixed with nuts and fruits are displayed behind the glass counters.
There are also plenty of types of coffee and beans to choose from. Then linger at the bar sipping a double espresso taking in the atmosphere.
Don’t miss it when next in the area.
